Embark on an unforgettable nine-day journey through Benin and Togo, a region steeped in history, tradition, and cultural richness.

Your experience begins in Benin, where you’ll explore vibrant cities, historic landmarks, and welcoming local communities. Witness the colorful Vodun Days Festival in Ouidah, glide through the stilt village of Ganvié, and delve into Porto-Novo’s Afro-Brazilian heritage. You’ll also spend time by the peaceful Black River, where you’ll meet artisans and take part in hands-on cultural activities, including basket weaving, drum making, and an interactive drumming session.

In Togo, discover the coastal towns of Aneho and Agbodrafo, cross Lake Togo by boat to reach historic Togoville, and immerse yourself in the dynamic rhythm of Lomé, where you’ll explore bustling markets, iconic monuments, and insightful museums.

A special highlight includes a community visit to Han Design Togo, a powerful social initiative supporting young women with disabilities. Connect with the artisans, learn about their craft, and support their work by purchasing handmade bags or making a contribution.

The journey concludes with a heartfelt departure dinner, celebrating the connections and memories made along the way.

For those interested, an optional continuation to Ghana and/or Côte d’Ivoire can be arranged following the main trip — offering the chance to further explore the region’s deep history, culture, and coastal charm.

Arrival in Cotonou, Benin 

Welcome to Benin! Upon arrival at Cotonou Airport, your host and driver will be there to greet you. After settling in at your hotel, relax and get comfortable. In the evening, join us for a Beninese welcome dinner to begin your journey on a flavorful note.

Day Trip to Ganvie

After breakfast, embark on a day trip to Ganvié, known as the “Venice of Africa.” Take in the enchanting stilted village, learning about its unique history and community life. Following a scenic boat tour, enjoy a flavorful local lunch before returning to Cotonou in the afternoon. 

Cotonou Cultural City Tour

On this tour we will visit significant landmarks like Place des Martyrs, Place de L’Amazone, and Etoile Rouge, then head to Dantokpa Market, the largest open-air market in West Africa. Here, you can shop for local goods and absorb the city’s vibrant atmosphere. The evening is yours to relax or explore.

Vodun Days Festival in Ouidah

Today, experience the Vodun Days Festival in Ouidah, formerly known as the Ouidah Vodun Festival. This renowned festival is a lively celebration of Benin’s Vodun heritage, featuring rituals, ancestral ceremonies, and performances from global musicians. Enjoy a delicious local lunch during the day, as the festival’s events run into the evening, offering a deep immersion into Vodun culture.

After a busy few days, today is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Whether you wish to unwind on the beach, lounge by the pool, indulge in a spa day, explore Cotonou’s local shops, our host and driver are available to assist with any arrangements. Make the most of your day of relaxation!

Day Trip to Porto Novo and Black River (La Riviere Noire) 

  • After a scrumptious breakfast at your hotel, we will journey to Porto-Novo, the official capital of Benin, known for its colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian heritage, and rich cultural institutions. Highlights may include visits to the Ethnographic Museum, the Grande Mosque (a striking former church), and a stroll through neighborhoods showcasing the city’s unique blend of cultures and much more. Then, continue to the Black River (La Rivière Noire)—a peaceful natural site surrounded by lush vegetation. It’s an ideal spot for reflection, nature walks, or simply enjoying the tranquil scenery before heading back to the city.  We will also visit two local community where we will learn the art of basket weaving, drum making follow by a fun interactive drumming class.

Travel to Togo via Aneho, Agbodrafo, Lake Togo and Togoville 

We’ll begin our journey into Togo today, starting with a visit to the seaside town of Aneho, known for its colonial history and beautiful coastal views. Our next stop is Agbodrafo, where we’ll visit the Slave Museum and learn about the area’s historical significance. For lunch, we’ll head to the Cultural Center Les Changeurs, where we’ll discover local recycling art projects and community initiatives.

Afterward, we’ll cross Lake Togo by boat to reach Togoville, Togo’s former capital, and delve into its rich history and culture.

Lome Cultural City Tour 

Discover Lomé’s rich cultural landscape with visits to the Grand Marché, Akodessewa Fetish Market, Independence Monument, the German Cathedral, and the National Museum. Pause for a local lunch, then enjoy a photo opportunity at the striking Palais de Lomé.

Community outreach to visit Han Design Togo initiative  and departure dinner 

Spend sometime at Han Design Togo, a social initiative empowering young women with hearing disabilities. Engage with artisans, learn about their creative process, and support the center by purchasing beautiful handmade bags and accessories or making a donation.

Departure From Lome, Togo 

After breakfast, your host and driver will escort you to the airport for your departure. Since this is a multi-city trip with arrival in Benin and departure from Togo, we’re available to help with any final flight arrangements.
